Rumble in the Jumble

Posted on 14th Nov 2022 | admin

Our very first post by one of our members! I want this space to be a place any of you can bring light to any issues close to your heart and it is my absolute pleasure to make some noise for Cornwall Refuse Trust, a local charity working with victims of domestic abuse.

A word from Emily

I got involved with the charity through my friends Lucy and Elsie. They told me about the work of the refuge centres in Cornwall and the levels of abuse these families go through, until one member has the bravery to leave and find the support and trust of the team at Cornwall Refuge Trust.

Such admiration goes out to these women/men who choose to leave everything behind, and find a better life for themselves and their children. Elsie told me about one Christmas list where a child asked for a packet of crisps. I felt very privileged. After having my little boy, it made to want to support the families and communities around me that need the extra love, consideration and hope. If we can donate, even a little, it can give a lot!

We are contacting the community/ brands to ask to donate to the Cornwall Refuge Trust

Which provides refuge accommodation for women, men and children who have escaped
domestic abuse, offering them a safe and supportive environment. They offer support and advice, empowering victims of abuse to create and maintain a safer and happier future.

Christmas sees a spike in calls to the helpline- last year there was a 110% increase to the trusts helpline. For the last 4 years we have fundraised to provide Xmas presents and self care provisions for everyone staying in these houses over the Xmas period. Presents for the children, and some essentials for the adults who have probably left everything behind.  Last year we brought security for the property.

On December the 4th we are organising a small community jumble sale and raffle to sell sample stock that’s been donated and raffle off special items.

We would really appreciate any new item donations for us to sell at the jumble or any special prizes for the raffle.

Thank you
Emily x
